Morocco and France’s Normandy Region have reaffirmed their commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation in energy transition and sustainable development.

During a high-level meeting in Rabat, Moroccan Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, welcomed a delegation led by Hervé Morin, President of the Normandy Region, to discuss joint efforts in renewable energy, green hydrogen, and scientific collaboration.

The discussions focused on enhancing partnerships in strategic sectors, including energy efficiency, research in green hydrogen technologies, and capacity-building in civilian nuclear energy.

Both sides also explored cooperation in smart energy grid management, a key area for optimizing electricity distribution and consumption.

In addition to energy-related topics, the meeting addressed opportunities for collaboration in higher education and scientific research, particularly in engineering and nuclear sciences.

Given Normandy’s leadership in these fields within France, officials emphasized the potential for strengthening ties between Moroccan and French universities and research institutions.

Minister Benali affirmed Morocco’s dedication to energy transition, highlighting the nation’s strategy under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.

She recalled the strategic partnership signed between Morocco and France in the presence of King Mohammed VI and President Emmanuel Macron, which serves as a cornerstone for cooperation in green hydrogen and clean technology innovation.

For his part, Hervé Morin praised Morocco’s role as a leading model in energy transition within Africa and the Mediterranean region. He emphasized Normandy’s expertise in civilian nuclear energy, green hydrogen, and engineering education, positioning it as an ideal partner for Moroccan institutions.

The meeting also included the participation of the French Ambassador to Morocco and senior representatives from French institutions specializing in energy research, technological innovation, and economic cooperation. French Embassy officials in Rabat attended the discussions, representing academic and decentralized cooperation sectors.

This engagement marks a step forward in consolidating Morocco-France collaboration, reinforcing both countries’ shared vision for sustainable energy development and climate resilience.
