WAM Tech Talks 4.0 – Interview with Fabrizio Pesce
Please provide a brief introduction to Vigel and its key focus areas?
Founded in 1947 VIGEL S.P.A is an internationally leading company in manufacturing technologies and one of the most qualified producers of multi-spindle Machining Centers for the Automotive industry, but not only. Two production plants in Italy (Turin – HQ) and India (Pune), one new opening in Changzhou, China (March 2023), service’s subsidiaries in US, Mexico, China, India and Korea guarantee a global presence in the market and close proximity to our customers.
Vigel product range includes: Horizontal and Vertical Multi-Spindle Machining Centers, Giga Casting and Turning Machines.
Vigel Machining Centers are high-performance, designed to meet medium-to-high production volumes and guarantee maximum flexibility, key factors to achieve the requirements of Tears 1-2 companies in the automotive market. Vigel also provides support services throughout the life of its machinery. Over the years, we have invested heavily in our service and spare parts centers, strategically located in geographic areas close to end customers. These centers, together with the parent company, support our customers with training, production start-up, spare parts, and remote monitoring, a crucial phase today.
In 2020, the company entered the electric car market thanks to a prestigious project to supply next-generation machining centers for the production of a specific component for new electric cars.
What is the biggest shift or change in the manufacturing technologies industry in recent years?
The manufacturing technologies industry, especially the automotive, now more than ever, is rapidly evolving. We are living in an uncertain, volatile, and complex environment whose trajectory is difficult to predict. The economic war of duties has further increased global uncertainty and has come amid profound transformations already underway, which can be summarized in macro trends such as digitalization and the electrification of the automobile. The electromobility trend undoubtedly represents the most significant disruption compared to the past, with repercussions for the entire automotive industry in particular: the transformation of traditional components that must necessarily adapt to the new requirements of electric vehicles, the introduction of new components, and even the disappearance of some traditional ones. All of this undoubtedly requires significant efforts to adapt to change, but it also represents significant opportunities that we are seizing.
What is your approach/strategy for new market expansion?
We have always been very aggressive in conquering new markets and acquiring new customers. The secret of our success has always been openness to the international markets in order to operate next to our main customers. The rapid changes imposed by the globalization have been an important confirmation of this corporate strategy and a strong incentive to take that extra step that today allows Vigel to be present in the main markets of reference. Markets expansion for Vigel doesn’t mean only new countries but also new fields to conquer as demonstrates the entry into the EV market with its GiGa casting machining solution which brings Vigel as a leading company in the market of electromobility supply. What’s more, in 2023, Vigel acquired a last generation of pick up Lathes from a prestigious company of the field which represents an extension of the company's portfolio, enabling us to enter the market for machining axisymmetric components.
What new opportunities does Morocco present for Vigel?
Morocco is emerging as a strategic manufacturing hub for the automotive industry, hosting major OEMs like Renault and Stellantis. For Vigel, this means opportunities to support local and regional production with high-precision equipment.
What led you to participate in the inaugural edition of WAM Morocco?
As a company focused on innovation, precision, and industrial excellence, we see WAM as the ideal platform to showcase Vigel’s advanced machining solutions, strengthen partnerships, and explore new opportunities within Morocco’s expanding automotive and industrial ecosystem.
